There are several advantages of using fusion for XRF analysis. The samples are homogeneous at an atomic level, with no mineralogical or particle size effects. Standards don't have to be matrix matched and can be stored for long periods with no loss of accuracy. The fusion process is relatively cheap and quick, taking between 10 and 20 mins per sample and has great accuracy.

This section gives an overview of the fusion process. The fusion process can be broken into five steps. Each step is optimised to ensure a successful fusion.

Step 1: Prepare Sample

Step 2: Add Flux

Step 3: Melt the Mixture

Step 4: Cast the Melt

Step 5: Cooling

Steps 1-5: print version
